The Centro de Referência para Demandas Físicas INTEGRAÇÃO (Reference Center for Physical Demands - INTEGRATION) is an Internet website. An extension project of the Occupational Therapy Dept developed by a group of professors in the field of physical dysfunction. These professors, worried about the lack of access to information on people presenting handicaps, institutions and clinics attending such people, service companies and companies and/or institutions which offer leisure and cultural activities to the handicapped population decided to launch the site in view of the fact that Internet is nowadays the fastest way of spreading information.
OBJECTIVES: The main aims are:
l to form a data bank on institutions or companies offering services to handicapped people;
l to exchange information about the existing services in the country;
l to diffuse specialised information to all people or institutions that may need it;
l to trace a panorama of all types of existing services which attend handicapped people.
Specific questionnaires with the idea of creating a national data bank were elaborated and sent by mail to service companies, to handicapped people associations, to institutions offering services and schools of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. The questionnaires are also available online.
RESULTS: to the present date 14 companies, 20 institutions, 12 associations and 3 schools have been registered.
Besides the data bank the site contains several items of interest:
1) the history of the site;
2) the professors bibliographical production related to physical dysfunction;
3) course-texts as downloads of simplified bibliographical material;
4) the Boas Notícias (Good News) section, which contains most recent information about conquests of handicapped people;
5) courses, congresses and events about handicaps around the country;
6) links to associations of handicapped people;
7) a link to the Associação Brasileira de Terapia Ocupacional (Brazilian Association of Occupational Therapy)
The site is also available in Spanish. The site had received 3942 hits until 04/09/2001, mostly by professionals, students and people with handicaps asking for bibliographical material, special requests regarding automobile adaptations and specialised technical services.
